Cake:
Start this cake the night before: combine dates, boiling
water and baking soda. Cool and leave to soak overnight.
The
next day: beat eggs, sugar and shortening together.
Stir in flour and baking powder. Mix until smooth. Add
dates.
Pour
batter into a greased 9 by 13 inch cake pan.
Topping:
Sprinkle brown sugar evenly over top of the cake. Sprinkle
butterscotch chips over, then walnuts.
Bake
at 350 degrees F. for 40 minutes.
