Kathleen's Chocolate Scratch Cake

My sister's English mother-in-law brought this recipe to our family. It is a comfort food that she served her children after school. When you eat this soft, moist chocolate cake be prepared to moan. It is really delicious. Be prepared to make another, your family will be begging for more. - Brenda Gustin

Cake:
3 oz. butter or margarine
1/2 cup white sugar
5 tablespoons Nestle's Quick*
1 cup self raising flour
4 eggs
1/4 to 1/2 cup milk

Frosting:
2 plain chocolate candy bars

Directions:

Melt butter so it can be beaten. Mix chocolate powder into butter, than add sugar. Add flour, and then eggs. Beat until smooth. Add milk so that mixture is runny.

Pour batter into a greased 8 inch square cake pan. Bake in middle of oven at 375 F for 20 minutes. Test for doneness with toothpick.

Frosting: While cake is in oven, break 2 plain chocolate candy bars into a cup or bowl. Place on top of stove to melt. When cake is done, mix chocolate with a knife and spread on cake while both the cake and chocolate is still warm. The chocolate will harden as the cake cools, sealing in the cake's moistness.

* Note: Nestle's Quick is a brand of sweetened chocolate powder for making chocolate milk.
