2 1/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 cups light brown sugar
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Combine flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder and spices.

In mixer bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar. Beat in eggs.

Remove beaters. Fold in the flour mixture in thirds, alternately with milk and vanilla, until smoothly blended. Don't overstir.

Spread batter in a greased 9 inch square pan. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until top of cake springs back when touched lightly. Cool.
