Traditional Christmas Dinner

Here are my favorite recipes for a traditional country Christmas dinner.

The mashed potatoes and sweet potato casserole can be made ahead of time and refrigerated before baking. In our family, turnip is a tradition - and I love this rutabaga and pear puree.

Another tradition is the jellied salad - I don't know where the idea to serve a sweet Jello dish with a meal came from, but it was reserved for special occasions and pot luck dinners. It just wouldn't be Christmas without this pineapple and carrot version.

Stuff your turkey with a simple bread stuffing (my favorite part of the meal) and serve with a delicious homemade cranberry sauce.

Somehow after this great feast you have to "save room" for just a teeny serving of rich carrot pudding. It's tradition!
