Mary Ann Donogh was known
as Minnie. She worked
as a milliner - her first job was at Eatons in
Toronto. She also worked for 2 years for her Uncle
Jack and Aunt Kizzie (Thomas Jackson and Kezia
Andrews Donogh) at their store in Berkeley, California.
In 1916, she married Bert
Hinchcliff, who was born in Toronto in 1889, son
of Mark Hinchcliff and Fannie Charlton. Bert and
Minnie farmed at Ruthilda, Saskatchewan for 38
years.
Bert was a great horticulturist,
and the farm was a delightful oasis in the prairie
landscape, especially in the spring. He had about
5 acres of orchard, lawns and flowers and shrubs.
He propagated two new varieties of plum/cherry
hybrids which were prairie hardy. In the late
30's and 40's Minnie used to sell fruit locally.
