| Roland died in the First World War, at
the age of 20.
I have 4 letters that
Roland wrote in 1916 from France, to his
father Alex and to his brother and
sister-in-law Weir and Maggie. The letter
to his father is the usual letter home
that doesn't say anything: "the
weather over here has been fairly cold
but it is warming up quite a lot
now." He mentions that his brother
Wallace is over there also, the last
letter home they sent in the same
envelope, and he had recently visited
Wallace at his billets.
The letter ends:
"Well dad there isn't much news in
this scribble but it will let you know
that I am enjoying health and hope you
are too. So I will ring off for this time
from your loving son. Roland."
