| NOTES: |
Stanly, like his twin brother Standish,
grew up in the family stores, and became a retail
executive with Sears Roebuck, where he worked for
over 30 years, until his retirement in 1963.
He married Marie Torsch
of Baltimore in 1925, and they moved to Berkeley,
where they had their 2 children, and then to Seattle
in 1932. Marie was involved in charity work for
several organizations and also did work for her
children's school. She was honored as Bellevue
Woman of Achievement in 1949.
Stanly loved hydroplaning, in which he set many records. He assisted in founding the Seafair Unlimited Hydroplane Races, and in 1958 he was voted into the Unlimited Hydroplane Hall of Fame.
Marie shared her husband's
love of the water, and they enjoyed taking boat
trips through Washington, British Columbia and
up to Alaska.
Stanly and Marie were married for 65 years at the time of his death in 1990. Marie died 8 years later, in 1998. Here is a picture of them, with at the far
left, Melba, the widow of Standish.
